Why have a page devoted to the van?
Well, this page will be lost on you if you don't drive a van most of the time.
Why do I love my new van? Because I fell out of love with my old van. Yes, it did it's job really well, served me for 13 years without ever letting me down, but time had taken it's toll and the rust was becoming a big issue.
I kept putting it off. There was always something else to buy and a new van was going to be a lot of money. Maybe next year. But I had to ask myself..what do people think when I drive up to their house delivering a lovely bunch of flowers in this old banger? Doesn't bear thinking about, does it.
When you eventually work it out, it’s about sixty pounds a week, of which i’ll save a fair bit in diesel and repair costs, not to mention the benefits of virtually free advertising every day
And I must be getting older myself. It wasn't so long ago that I would have test driven every make of van on the market and filled up a spreadsheet with all the features, costs etc before coming to a decision. But not this time. I liked the look of the Traffic. It has a high roof which is essential when you're up around 6'. It has a full bulkhead, which is great because you don't get all the rubbish coming through into the cab. The cab itself is laid out really well. It's comfortable. It drives like a car. I can hear the cd player without having to switch off the engine. It has six forward gears. It goes 18,000 miles between servicing. It gives me 27mpg.
It took me ages to decide on the signwriting. I knew I wanted something a bit different but didn't really know what. So I took a few digital photos of the van and loaded them into Corel Draw (Photo Paint). Played around for a few weeks and eventually ended up with something that I thought I'd be happy with. That's the beauty of vinyl lettering. You can have just about anything you want. Yes, it will fade after a few years but when you work out the cost, it's about one pound per week over five years for my van, so a revamp at that point will not be a major issue.
Who did the signwriting?
